Make a Halloween pumpkin patch dirt cake full of Halloween colors and pumpkins. Instant pudding is turned orange and covered with cookie dirt and candy pumpkins for a kid-friendly dessert.
I have a confession to make – I’m not very good at Halloween. For half of my childhood, my family didn’t “celebrate” Halloween and it still feels a little strange at times to partake in any type of festivities. But my husband kids love Halloween and so over the years, I’ve been more open to fun Halloween decorations and food. This year I decided it was time to adventure out into fun Halloween food.
As it turns out, there is a lot of fun food available just for Halloween, like this super fun Orange Scream milk from TruMoo. It’s orange and tastes is orange cream flavored. While a big glass of orange milk is pretty fun for Halloween, I wanted to actually make something with this orange goodness. I wondered if I could use the TruMoo Orange Scream in place of regular milk to make a fun Halloween orange pudding.
If you can not locate the TruMoo Orange Scream near you, just use regular milk and add a little orange food coloring to the milk. Another alternative is to use regular milk with an orange or orange cream pudding mix. Our local Kroger store has these in their store brand.
Mix 2 cups of cold TruMoo Orange Scream with 1 package of instant vanilla pudding. Simply follow the directions on the back of the pudding box.
Spread the orange pudding in the bottom of a pie plate or any other dish you like. One pudding box does not make a ton of pudding so if you want to make a large pumpkin patch, make 2-3 boxes of pudding.
Next top the pudding with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies for a dirt layer. If you want you can layer half the pudding, then half the cookie crumbs, and repeat once more. Just make sure to end with the crushed cookie crumbs.
Gently place pumpkin candy on top of the dirt to make a little pumpkin patch. You could also take green frosting and pipe in vines between the pumpkins. Add gummy worms, too, for even more fun dirt cake action.
Some dirt cakes call for cream cheese or whipped cream to be mixed in with the pudding. You can do that as well if you have a favorite dirt cake recipe. But the kids don’t seem to notice that it’s just pudding.

October 18, 2016What a fun idea! I am a bad mom, I don’t think I have ever made dirt cups (cake) for my son. I will have to rectify that.

October 5, 2015Alright for the people who cannot find the Trumoo Orange Scream Milk, Can we just add food coloring to it? Im asking because I havent seen this milk well, at all ever. So I just wanted to know.
Camille
October 5, 2015Absolutely! It did add an orange flavor to the pudding, but honestly, just leaving it the vanilla with the orange color would be just as delicious. I used the orange milk more for the color than the flavor. Another option would be just use chocolate pudding. It’s more “dirt” like!

August 14, 2015I can’t wait to give this a try! Dirt Cake is one of those things that people constantly ask me to bring to get togethers, but it gets boring after awhile. And the pumpkins are so much cuter (and appetizing!) than the gummy worms! Thanks for sharing this!!
Camille
August 15, 2015I bought the pumpkins on a whim last fall and then thought they’d make a cute dirt cake! π So much fun!
