How to use the Ghost Story Prompts
Your friends huddled together in anticipation, the soft flicker of candlelight casting long, menacing shadows on the walls. With a shuffling of papers, someone bravely dips their hand into a pumpkin (or perhaps an old hat or even a cauldron if you’re feeling particularly witchy!) to draw the first prompt.
One of the cards reads, “Lost amidst the dense forest, I stumbled upon a ghost town, its silence echoing with stories yet to be discovered.” The room falls silent, the storytelling begins, and a spectral journey into the supernatural realms ensues.
Or perhaps, the chosen prompt might be, “While tilling the field, I unearthed an old bell, and each time it rang, I was greeted by the apparitions of the field’s former tenders.”
The beauty of this ghoulish game is the collective creativity it inspires. After the first line is read, everyone adds their own thrilling elements to the story, turning each tale into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece of terror.
Write Your Own Horror Story
If you’ve got a flair for the frightful – we’ve got you covered. We’ve included a set of blank cards. You can fill these in with your own horror story prompts and stir them into the mix.
Whether you’re seeking scary writing prompts for your class, looking to make your Halloween bash more haunting, or simply craving a bit of eerie entertainment around a campfire, our downloadable pack of spooky story prompts is your ticket to a thrilling journey into the unknown.
Ideas for Using Ghost Story Prompts
Halloween Party Ice-Breaker: Kick off a Halloween party and have each guest pick a prompt and share a spooky story based on it. Set the eerie mood for the evening and serve as a fun conversation starter.
Class Activity: Use the prompts to stimulate creativity in a writing class. Assign each student a different prompt and have them write and share their stories.
Family Fun Night: Start a new family tradition – a spooky story night. Make some homemade caramel corn and hot chocolate. Gather around the table or living and draw prompts. Go around and build on each other’s scary tales. This is a fantastic way to spend quality screen-free time together. Use the blank cards to create less spooky story starters for younger kids.
