Make your own pumpkin pie spice with a few spices already in your spice collection. Homemade pumpkin pie spice is made with just a few common spices so you can add a homemade touch to all your fall cooking and baking.
Pumpkin pie spice is a staple in fall baking. It’s a great combination of fall flavors that can be used in breads, cookies and of course, pumpkin pie. I used to keep a store bought jar of the mix on hand, but found I really only used a few teaspoons every year and the mix didn’t stay fresh for long. But mixing up a small, fresh batch every year is quick, easy and keeps the spices fresh.
You can mix and match the ingredients. I actually didn’t have any allspice on hand when I made up this batch. I also use whole nutmegs and grate with a microplane grater as needed. There is nothing quite like freshly ground nutmeg!
Just mix all the spices together and store. I make small batches at a time to keep the spice fresh.
