Chicken Gyros with Tzatiki Cucumber Sauce

  • 1 1/4 pounds boneless, skinless chicken, cut in to 3" strips
  • 1 large onion, cut into 1/2" wedges
  • 1/4 cup, olive oil
  • 3 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 Tablespoon oregano
  • 1 garlic clove, mashed in to a paste
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Tzatiki Sauce

  • 1 cup, whole fat Greek style yogurt
  • 1 garlic clove, mashed in to a paste
  • 1/2 European cucumber, seeded and very finely diced


  1. Combine olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, and garlic in a bowl.
  2. Add chicken and toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Let stand for 20 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine all ingredients for tzatiki sauce. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
  5. Cook chicken and onions on a grill over high heat, turning once or twice, until tender and cooked through.
  6. Serve chicken with pitas and sauce.
