How to Make a Flag Wine Cork Craft
Paint the Wine Corks and Stars
To begin making the wine cork flag, lay out 35 wine corks on your work surface, 7 rows tall and 5 columns wide.
Separate the corks for painting; 16 red, 13 white, and 6 blue. You can use more or fewer wine corks to create the perfect size flag for your home décor.
Paint the 16 wine corks with a basecoat of red paint. You can paint a light coat so that the printing on the cork shows through for added interest. This is fun when you have corks from wine bottles that have special meaning to you. Or you can paint them a nice solid dark red.
Paint the 13 wine corks with a basecoat of white paint. You can add some water to the paint to create a whitewash look so that the printing on the cork shows through for added interest.
While you have the white paint out, go ahead and paint 3 wooden stars white as well.
Finally, paint 6 wine corks with the blue acrylic craft paint. Let the wine corks fully dry before moving on to the next step.
Glue the Wine Corks Together
Once the corks are all dry, cut out a 6″ x 9 ” rectangle of scrap cardboard. You can use a cereal box or shipping box. You will need to adjust the size of the cardboard if you use more or fewer wine corks.
Starting at the bottom, attach 5 red corks in a row using a glue gun and glue sticks. Add a row of 5 white corks, then alternate red and white until the flag has four red stripes and three white stripes.
TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
Add the six blue corks to the top left-hand corner of the flag to represent the field of stars. Glue the stars onto the blue corks.
Once all the corks are glued in place, trim excess cardboard from the edges with scissors.
Add a Hanger and Glitter to the Flag
Measure and cut a 12” length of natural jute twine. If you will not be hanging the flag, you can skip this part.
Flip the flag over and glue the ends of the jute twine to the top right and top left-hand corners with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Using a paintbrush in a dabbing motion, add the holographic glitter acrylic craft paint to the three wooden stars to add some sparkle.
