  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Paintbrush

Materials

  • New or used wine corks
  • Acrylic craft paint Red, White, Blue, Holographic Glitter
  • Natural jute twine
  • Wooden stars
  • A scrap of cardboard like a cereal box

Instructions

  • Lay 35 wine corks on your work surface, 7 rows tall and 5 columns wide.
  • Separate the corks for painting; 16 red, 13 white, and 6 blue.
  • Paint the 16 wine corks with red paint, 13 wine corks with white paint, and 6 wine corks with blue paint. Allow corks to dry fully.
  • Paint 3 wooden stars white.
  • Cut out a 6″ x 9 ” rectangle of scrap cardboard.
  • Starting at the bottom, attach 5 red corks in a row using a glue gun and glue sticks. Add a row of 5 white corks, then alternate red and white until the flag has four red stripes and three white stripes.
  • Add the six blue corks to the top left-hand corner of the flag to represent the field of stars. Glue the stars onto the blue corks.
  • Once all the corks are glued in place, trim excess cardboard from the edges with scissors.
  • Measure and cut a 12” length of natural jute twine.
  • Flip the flag over and glue the ends of the jute twine to the top right and top left-hand corners with a glue gun and glue sticks.
  • Using a paintbrush in a dabbing motion, add the holographic glitter acrylic craft paint to the three wooden stars to add some sparkle.
