Last month I shared that we had added a line to our Walmart Family Mobile plan for our daughter, Ella. As I shared in that post, while Ella is only 7 we had a few scary experiences that made us re-think our no cell phones for kids policy. I’m still a little embarrassed to admit that I gave my 7 year old a cell phone, but it has given me a sense of peace knowing she can reach me if she needs to.
The nice thing about Walmart Family Mobile is that it’s very budget friendly. Even though we’re paying for another cell phone line, we can still go out to eat or catch a movie.
One of my concerns about adding Ella to our Walmart Family Mobile plan was her having unfettered access to the internet on her phone. I spend a lot of time on the world wide web and I have know exactly what one can accidentally stumble upon. So I was really happy to see that I can set child controls on Ella’s phone. I found the option right in our Walmart Family Mobile online account as you can see above. The child level limits content in this category so that it contains little or no sexual content, situations, or themes; no strong or coarse language; no alcohol, tobacco or drug use; and no gambling. Some websites may contain minimal cartoon or fantasy violence.
If and when to give your child a cell phone is definitely a choice every parent has to make based on their own situation, but we’re glad we decided to do it. I love getting these cute text messages from my daughter! She’s just learning to spell and she doesn’t understand the auto correct, but I still understand what she’s trying to say. After months of using Walmart Family Mobile with both my husband and my daugther, I can definitely say that #FamilyMobileSaves! #cbias
Yes, my 9-year old daughter wants one too, but I would definitely put some controls on it as well. Thanks again for participating in this campaign! Nice job! #client
I think it’s kind of funny how young they want one because she really has no one to call! The only numbers on there are family. 🙂
That is GREAT to hear about the child settings, that they are so easy to access and change! I really do wish we could have a phone for each of our kids, especially with kids involved in sports and lessons and such.
I remember using the pay phone at school to call my mom about schedule changes and such, but I doubt schools even have those anymore.
This plan looks awesome!!! Perfect for an entire family!
One of my daughter’s is Ella 🙂
We’ve decided on cell phones when the kids hit middle school, so we have a few more years before our oldest is there!! Such a hard decision to make when “all the other kids have a phone, mom!!”
Aw, my daughter loves to meet other kids who share her name! 🙂
I hate being that mom that makes your life harder! LOL But I see why parents do it. I think living in a larger, very notorious city also changed my parenting playbook a little.
This sounds like a wonderful plan and like the fact that your can set the controls of your child’s phone.
I was really worried about her access to the internet but she spends most of her time texting!
We have this plan. We also have a 7 yr old. I’m not sure I can add him on yet LOL But it’s totally annoying when he sends texts to my husband and then I read his reply wondering why I wanted to wear my pirate costume to school! 🙂
Ha ha! Well, that would be interesting!
