About Me

Welcome to Growing Up Gabel! Thanks for taking a minute to learn more about us – The Gabels.

My name is Camille Gabel and I am a wife, blogger and mom to Ella (2006) and Miles (2008).  My husband, Mitch, and I have been married since 2004. We have called Las Vegas, Nevada home for over 15 years.  We originally came from Michigan (Camille) and Long Island, New York (Mitch). We don’t miss the snow!

Straight out of college with a BA in Religion and Music, I worked for a small tour operator (a type of travel agency). I had the amazing opportunity to travel in the Middle East.

While that job was the best one I’ve ever had,  I decided I needed to find a job that could actually pay the bills. I started law school. I met Mitch, who was working on a doctorate in music, my 2nd year in law school.  In 2004 I earned both my J.D. Cum Laude from Michigan State University School of Law and gained an “Mrs” and a new last name.

I started blogging in 2007 as a means of sharing our lives with our families on the east coast. I quickly realized I could share so much more than just my family on my blog.

I am a busy homeschooling mom and wife and the older I get, the less time I seem to have.  I also work another communications job part time at our church. So trust me, if I can cook, create, sew, make, and go – then so can you!  I am almost entirely a self-taught cook, knitter and crafter and learned because I wanted to.  I hope that what I share here is an inspiration that you can do it, too!

I am passionate about University of Michigan sports, knitting, and traveling.  I hope someday to get back to traveling the world but for now our travel involves national parks, tents and an occasional theme park.

Hi Camille, I was wondering if you direct me to where you purchased the clear round coffee cups you used in the hot cocoa Christmas ornament. Have been searching for them. Thanks! Live the idea. Wanted to make a couple yrs now, I usually give an ornament to friends and family each yr. Covid has put a stop this yr.

Hi Tina! I actually get a lot of emails and comments from fellow Gabels. My husband’s family is from New York. His parents grew up in the Bronx. I hear from many PA Gabels, though!

Wow you wear a lot of hats in your house. Does your husband work from home too? How do you balance all of this as a couple?

No my husband is a teacher. We’ve worked hard of the years to learn how to work together. I’m a manager and he’s a technician. So I plan a lot and he makes the plan happen. We also love the enneagram and have used that to lean into our strengths and weaknesses individually and as a couple. So a lot of hard work has made our home run smoothly.

Hi Camille, we are making the Italian Lemon Iced cookies for the second time (my hubby is the head baker in our house)! Just wanted to thank you for the recipe and the tips and I wish I could remember how I came across your site in the first place, but you know the rabbit hole that is the internet. I’m just glad I did. We are from Chicago but after a stint (for jobs/work) up in Seattle, we’re living in the SF Bay Area (Emeryville) now and will never go back to living with snow again! I spoke at BlogHer in 2013 when it was in Chicago…do you ever attend their conferences? Take care and stay safe, Sandy

Hi Sandy! Thank you! No more snow for us, either! At least, I hope. 🙂 I have never been to a BlogHer conference but they sound fun! -Camille

Making the Instant Pot Pumpkin Cheesecake. It says to put a paper towel on top of cheese cake & cover loosely with foil before putting in the IP. What’s purpose of papertowel?? Will it be OK without it?? Thanks & happy Thanksgiving!! I’m starting a day ahead and this is last thing I have to do for today!! :=)

    Hi Camille,
I never have canned biscuits on hand or buttermilk either, so when I found your recipe for monkey bread I was sooooo happy. I had almost everything that the recipe called for except the only yogurt that I had was plain greek yogurt. I just added a tsp of vanilla and Wa La! I love the fact that you use butter and not crisco which is so not good for you, and I was shy 1 cp of flour but had bisquick. It turned out awesomey!!!!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you

I love how you used what you had on hand and adjusted! It’s really fun to be able to use your pantry like that. 🙂

Hi: I really like the recipe card you use on your site. Would you mind sharing the name of the plugin you are using. I am on my second one and both have problems.
I am new to blogging and would appreciate any advice on this.

    Thank you,

I was just going to ask the same exact thing !!! How can we all add this to our site so that recipies shared actually can be saved by others, this is so handy and helps with meal planning and the shopping list !

Hi Linda – you want to add a recipe to your blog? Or have the option to save it somewhere and then get a shopping list? If you just want to save it, I use Pinterest boards for recipe ideas to keep. I’d have to look into making a shopping list. But it’s a copyright issue to save the full recipe somewhere on it’s own so that wouldn’t ever be allowed. But I’m happy to help make it easier to organize and shop from!

Great information. Me and my brother are trading using RobotFX EA. They are commercializing rewarding expert advisers (fx trading software or robot fx) and helpful MT4 technical indicators based on effective trading strategies. The robotfx indicators are adeptly documented so each expert advisor trading trader can understand the forex strategy behind it. Each RobotFX EAs are also available as demo version that anyone can download for free.
