Turn a men's dress sock into a no sew sock gnome.
Yield: 1 gnome
Author: Camille

Equipment

  • Utility knife
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue and hot glue gun

Materials

  • 1 men’s dress sock
  • 2 cups Dry beans
  • Polyfill stuffing
  • 1 piece 9×12 felt
  • 1 ¾″ wooden balls
  • Faux fur
  • Yarn

Instructions

  • Pour half the beans into a cup.
  • Put the top of the sock over the cup and invert, pouring the beans into the sock. Repeat until you have 2 cups of beans in the sock.
  • Stuff the sock with stuffing until it’s almost full.
  • Cinch the sock at the opening and close shut. Secure with a piece of yarn or string. Tie in a double knot.
  • Wrap a piece of felt around the sock, making sure it wraps completely around and overlaps on the back. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to get a bigger piece of fabric or felt. If it fits, and it should, you’ll need to make a hat. Fold the felt in half lengthwise and cut as shown, removing 2 triangles.
  • Wrap the felt around the gnome to create a hat.
  • Secure on the back only, with hot glue.
  • Place a nose on the front of the gnome by hot-gluing a wood ball onto the front. Make sure the nose is just below where the hat falls.
  • Cut a beard with a utility knife. Pay attention to how the fur lays and use a utility knife to cut the backing of the fur, making sure not to cut too much of the fur. The piece of fur is about 3″ x 4″.
  • Cut a notch in the top of the fur.
  • Add hot glue to the top of the fur and tuck it under the nose and along the sides.
  • Slide the hat down over the nose and beard. Once in the desired position, glue down the hat.
  • Lift the edges of the hat and apply hot glue under them.
