I love books. I always have. From the time I learned to read in Kindergarten, I devoured books. I spent hours at our local library and bookstore as a kid getting lost in new worlds and making new friends in the characters of the books I read. I have always had books readily available at my fingertips. My kids have bookshelves full of books. So it has never really crossed my mind that somewhere in this world, books are a rare luxury. Check out this video:
Thousands of books are shredded every year and all Mary Singletary wanted to do was get those old, used books headed for destruction in to the hands of children who don’t have books. Books are heavy though so shipping stood in the way of delivering the books. Then UPS stepped in with their #WishesDelivered and helped get Mary’s books to Malawi. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
As I’ve mentioned before This holiday season, UPS is encouraging people to create holiday cheer by sharing holiday wishes and stories on Twitter and Instagram. For every wish and story submitted, UPS will donate $1 to one of their charity partners (Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Club or Toys for Tots) up to a total donation of $100,000!
This is such a fun and easy way to help a family in need have a magical holiday season. Or maybe you are more like Mary and have a wish with a more global goal. Whether it’s books for children in Malawi for a simple meal for a family right next door, tell UPS your wish using the hashtag #WishesDelivered. Check out the #WishesDelivered site site for more information.
