Time Management Tips for the School Year

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

We are sending our daughter, Ella, off to 1st grade in a public school this year.  I realize that may not be earth shattering news for most parents, but we homeschooled Ella last year for Kindergarten so this will be our first out of the house school experience. I am so excited for Ella because she is so looking forward to going to school! But I’m also a little sad to be losing such a large chunk of time with her each day.

Ella puzzles

I spent some time poking around the Boys & Girls Club of America’s Back to School website to get some tips on making the transition to school easier for both us and Ella.  I am really interested in time management tips because as homeschoolers, we could kind of do our own thing.  We had a very flexible schedule.   Some of the tips I am planning to use are:

1. Establish a daily routine:  This one will be fairly easy since we have to work around school hours and I’m pretty good at keeping bedtime.

2. Create a family calendar: I love this idea! It not only helps us all see what is going on that week, but also helps the kids learn a sense of time and learn days, weeks, and months.

3. Prioritize:  There is never enough time in the day to get it all done.  I need to make sure to sit down and prioritize our “to do” list with everyone.

4. Build in fun: I take life way too seriously and can often get caught up in work, work, work.  I definitely need to schedule in some time for fun and family bonding or making ice cream!

Each year, 1 million students fail to graduate high school. This scary statistic, proves it is increasingly important to support today’s youth.  This Back-to-School season, BGCA and long-time partner  Disney have launched an online supply drive. By simply playing a pop-quiz style game, you can help donate school supplies to local BGCA Clubs. For every five correct answers, a donation of supplies will be made!  So head on over to the BGCA website to play!
