I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for JetBlue. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Get your kids excited about summer reading with the Soar With Reading website from The Magic Tree House books and JetBlue! Find out where Jack and Annie are headed next and help JetBlue give books to children in need.

summer reading

I used to love summer as a kid because it allowed me unfettered time to read.  We lived only a few blocks from the public library and on my way home from the last day of school, I’d stop by and pick a book.  I’d head home, spend the rest of the day (and the night) reading the book. The next morning I’d head back to the library to return the finished book and get a new one to read.  I literally read every single book in our small library.  The library’s used book sale was the highlight of the summer because I could stock up on new to me books.  Of course, this was all before e-readers and the internet were around to help satiate my appetite for reading and books.

This is the first summer our daughter, Ella, has been able to read and she’s quite the reluctant reader.  I really don’t get that, but I’m doing my best to encourage her summer reading.  Before the kids could read, we would listen to books on CD because I really don’t like reading aloud.  One of the kids favorite series was “Jack and Annie” – the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne.  One of my favorite genres of literature is historical fiction and I also fell in love with Jack and Annie. My kids were learning about history and didn’t even realize it.

We’ve continued to follow the adventures of Jack and Annie albeit a bit slower as we’re now reading the books instead of listening to them.  My daughter gets frustrated over how slow we are going so I was excited to introduce her to the Soar with Reading website.  JetBlue has teamed up with Magic Tree House and created a website full of fun activities and games.  You can listen to clues from Magic Tree House author Mary Pope Osborne and take a guess as to where Jack and Annie are headed next! Plus every time you take a guess, JetBlue will donate books to children in need.  You will also be entered to win a prize every time you take a guess. You could wine one of six first-prize trips throughout the summer, which will include a JetBlue Getaways Travel Certificate for two and an autographed copy of Magic Tree House #52: Soccer on Sunday, or a grand-prize drawing, with first prize being a JetBlue Getaways vacation for up to four people and a Magic Tree House boxed set of books. Second prizes include a Magic Tree House boxed set.

We had a lot of fun poking around the Soar with Reading website and checking out the activities.  There is a great printable passport you can use when reading the books to keep track of the different countries.  You can also send fun Magic Tree House e-cards to family and friends.   Balancing reading the books with spending time with activities on the Soar with Reading website has made our summer reading adventures a lot more fun.
