Pumpkin Patch Dirt Cake Ingredients:
- Trumoo Orange Scream Milk – can be substituted with chocolate or white milk
- Instant vanilla pudding (or any other flavor you like)
- Chocolate sandwich cookies
- Small pumpkin candy like Brach’s Mallowcreme Pumpkins
How to Make the Dirt Cake
It’s been 10 years since I first created this recipe. Over the years, TruMoo has offered Orange Scream off and on. So, if you can not locate the TruMoo Orange Scream near you, just use regular milk and add a little orange food coloring to the milk. Another alternative is regular milk with an orange or orange cream pudding mix. Our local Kroger store has these in their store brand.
Prepare the pudding according to the package directions. Ours called for 2 cups of cold TruMoo Orange Scream for 1 package of instant vanilla pudding.
For other dirt cake recipes, I blend together cream cheese and/or whipped topping. But I wanted this to be a quick and easy recipe so it just has pudding. The kids didn’t mind at all. Check out How to Make a Dirt Cake Centerpiece if you want a more traditional recipe.
Spread the pudding in the bottom of a pie plate or any other dish you like. One pudding box did not make a ton of pudding. It makes enough to cover about an 8″ pie pan. If you want to make a large pumpkin patch, make 2-3 boxes of pudding.
Place the chocolate sandwich cookies in a food processor and process until fine. I like to leave some of the cookies on the chunkier side. You can also use a plastic food storage bag and a rolling pin to crush the cookies.
Next, top the pudding with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies for a dirt layer. If you want, you can layer half the pudding, half the cookie crumbs, and repeat once more. Just make sure to end with the crushed cookie crumbs.
Gently place pumpkin candy on the dirt to make a little pumpkin patch. You could also take green frosting and pipe in vines between the pumpkins. Add gummy worms, too, for even more fun dirt cake action.
