Pumpkin carving is a fall activity my family looks forward to every year! With Pumpkin Masters Kids Kit, this year the kids were able to help more then ever.
One of my favorite ways to spend time as a family in the fall is pumpkin carving. The kids are old enough to look forward to it and help pick out pumpkins. Because we live in the desert, our pumpkins don’t last very long after we carve them – usually only a few days. So we’ve learned to leave the pumpkin craving until the day before Halloween. The kids look forward to it with much anticipation.
Usually, we just freestyle our pumpkin carving but this year we decided to use Pumpkin Masters Kids Carving Kit. The kids always to help out more than with just the seed scooping and the kids kit looked like it’d allow a little more interaction for them.
After looking through the different stencils in the book, the kids decided to go with a kitty. My kids love all kinds of animals and especially cats so it was a pretty easy decision for them.
My husband cut an opening in the top of the pumpkin, around the stem. He used the scooping tool that came with the kit to loosen up the pumpkin guts for the kids to scoop out with large spoons.
Once most of the ooey-gooey guts were removed, we taped the kitty stencil on the front of the pumpkin and my daughter used the included crayon to mark the stencil on the pumpkin. She did a great video for you of how to do the stencil, and then I deleted it. So I asked her to show you how she did it instead.
The stencil is on and Daddy got to work cutting out the lines with the included cutter. At 4 and 7, I wasn’t quite ready to let the kids cut yet, but the cutting tool definitely could be used by older kids.
I was really pleased with the way our kitty turned out and so were the kids! They loved adding the eyes for a fun touch and as you can see in the video below, the kids had a great time!
