The season of parenting babies is exhausting and hard. I remember being a brand new parent terrified that I was going to do something wrong and hurt my baby.  Looking back I realize that most of the things I worried about never actually happened.

September is officially Baby Safety Month. Keeping your baby safe is always a priority for moms. Hopefully these parenting tips from an experienced mom will help make this season easier and more fun.

5 Parenting Tips for Babies New Parents

Relax: The first thing to remember about keeping your baby safe is simply to relax. There are a myriad of products available to protect your most precious possession. Do your research on products, but try to relax and remember that your child is safe when they are with you.

Each Kid is Different: Kids are all different and what works for one kid may not work for another kid. One kids may be a climber while the other one is terrified of heights. One kid may learn to unbuckle their car seat while another one is content riding along. Remember that what works for one kid may not work for another one.

Be Flexible:  Parenting is such a roller coaster. Each day is different. Routine is good but also learn to be flexible. You will be fine if they miss a nap or go to bed late. It's just fine to have cereal for dinner or to eat on the couch instead of at the table. Have a little fun and know that the routine will help, but being flexible is also a lot of fun.

Say “Yes”: Parenting a young child often feels like just one big “NO!” Try to create opportunities and space to so you can say yes to your child. Create safe areas in your home where they are free to be kids and explore. Find places to go outside the home where kids can be kids and you can say yes to going there.

Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off or dangerous, then go with that feeling. You will learn quickly that your “mommy instinct” is usually right. That also goes for the instinct that says it's OK to parent how you want to parent and not how everyone else does.
