Keeping a family scheduled organized can be a full time job! Use a mobile calendar on your smart phone to help your family stay organized this school year.
One more week and we are officially back to school for the year. Unfortunately, the scheduling and planning for the school year has already begun. Football games, open houses, marching band competitions, concerts and even family visits are already scheduled. My secret weapon to keeping my sanity despite all the obligations and commitments – the mobile calendar on my smart phone.
Up until just a few months ago neither my husband or I had smart phones. We just couldn’t come up with a good reason to upgrade our basic cell phones. Then I decided that I really needed to be able to check email while on the go so I upgraded to a smart phone. I quickly discovered that my favorite part of the smart phone wasn’t the cool apps or being able to check email on the go – it was the calendar!
We have a busy school year. Between kids activities and my husband’s many after school commitments for his high school band, we have to make sure that our family calendar is up to date. When we used a paper calendar, we would often schedule meetings on top of other activities causing quite a problem. But now on our mobile devices, our calendars – both mine and his – are carried around in our pockets. We rarely have a scheduling issue because one of us didn’t realize something else was already going on at that time. In fact, as soon as one of us schedules something on the calendar, the other one receives a notice. It’s brilliant!
We use iCalendar to keep up with each other, but you can also set both Apple and Android devices to use Google Calendar as well. The benefit of using Google Calendar is that it is also easily accessible on a laptop or computer at home or work. No more excuses for double booking!
