How to Save Money on Camping Gear
About 5 years ago I convinced my city slicker, New York born and raised husband that we needed to start taking our family camping. Neither one of us had grown up in a family that camped so we really had no idea if we would like it or if it would just be a huge disaster. We’re still camping every summer and it’s the highlight of our year.
One of the most overwhelming parts of beginning camping is getting all the equipment. I’m not going to lie – camping requires a lot of gear. Our first year out we borrowed everything from friends. After we decided we wanted to camp on a regular basis, we invested in camping gear. After the initial purchase of the essentials, I buy a few items we want or need every year to add to our camping collection.
This year I wanted to purchase a small camping grill. One of my favorite parts of camping is cooking over the fire, but sometimes it rains. Or you’re really hungry for breakfast and building the fire back up is just going to take too long. The problem is that most portable grills are huge and we have a small car. We try to keep our gear to a minimum so it all fits.
I decided to try out a new site, Jet.com, to see what they offer for camping. Jet.com is very similar to Amazon.com. You can find just about anything you need there and they have pretty much everything you need for camping . The real reason I wanted to try Jet.com is to because there are discount codes available to save money.
I grabbed a code for 15% off my purchase from slickdeals.net. Slickdeals.net is a community-based deal site that shares the best deals from around the Web every day, sourced by members of the site. I compared all the prices of the grills I looked at on Jet.com to the prices on Amazon.com and they were basically the same. But with the coupon code from slickdeals.net, I was able to save an additional 15%!
I purchased a Coleman Fold N Go Propane Grill. It can cook four hamburgers at once so while it’s not huge, it will do the job. I also bought a griddle for the grills so we can use it for pancakes or eggs in the mornings. The griddle is a sold separately, but I think it’ll be the most used part of the grill.
It easier to keep things altogether when camping so I also bought a carrying case that holds the grill, griddle and two small propane tanks. I can’t wait to try out the grill on our trip to Yellowstone this summer.
Whether you are new to camping or a veteran, there’s always something you could use to make camping life a little easier or more fun. Make sure to check out Jet.com and the coupon codes on Slickdeals.net to save money on camping gear this summer.
