A few years ago I figured out how to make peanut butter at home. I was surprised at how easy is to make this store bought staple! All you need are peanuts and a food processor to make fresh peanut butter. Slather it on some homemade bread for a truly homemade snack.
I try to buy as much organic food as our budget will allow. I’m not entirely convinced that all organic food is made equal, but it gives me a little more peace of mind. Then last year there was a huge peanut butt recall – for organic and natural peanut butters! And I had some recalled peanut butter in my pantry. So much for being safer with organic.
A few years ago I had made peanut butter at home, but had just gotten lazy about making it so I decided it was time to start making my own again. It literally takes a few seconds so there is no excuse not to do it!
You can use any kind of peanuts you want: salted, roasted, raw, honey, flavored, the possibilities are endless. Just put the peanuts in a food processor – I use a Cuisinart Mini-Prep Plus Food Processor.
Just start pulsing the peanuts until you reach the desired consistency. My kids don’t like to know there are actually peanuts in there so I pulse it pretty smooth.
I store the homemade peanut butter in an old peanut butter jar and it keeps for weeks at least. It never lasts too long around here.
Thanks Camille for the article! I never knew making peanut butter was so easy! My kids will love this! – Bo Caldwell
