Learn how to make an easy sugar scrub with this Caramel Chocolate recipe for homemade sugar scrub.
A couple of years ago my husband tucked a little container of a sugar scrub from a well known mall beauty store in my stocking. I felt so bad that he had spent quite a bit of money on something that is so easy to make at home. I admit, I love that sugar scrub! But there’s absolutely no reason to buy it at a store. Once you know how to make a sugar scrub, you can hand them out as gifts or hoard them for yourself.
How to Make A Sugar Scrub
You’ll have most of the ingredients for the sugar scrub in your pantry. The scrub uses brown and white sugar as well as cocoa powder.
You will also need almond oil and vitamin E oil. These oils can also be used to make lotion bars and homemade shaving cream. I use them both pretty often in DIY beauty products. You could substitute avocado oil or even olive oil for the almond oil, if needed.
You can just make the homemade sugar scrub with all of the above ingredients and it will be a chocolate DIY sugar scrub. Or you can do what we did and in a few drops of Wilton caramel flavoring for a chocolate and caramel mix.
To make the scrub, simply mix all of the ingredients well in a large mixing bowl. Really. That’s it! I told you it’s kind of silly to buy this stuff in a store.
Transfer the scrub to an airtight glass container and store up to 3 months.
HOW TO USE A SUGAR SCRUB
Use the sugar scrub right in the shower. I keep my container on our shower caddie. Wet your skin in the shower and generously apply the chocolate caramel sugar scrub. Massage skin in a circular motion to allow the sugar to gently exfoliate and the almond oil to moisturize. The scrub is great on rough areas like heels and elbows. Enjoy the delicious scents of chocolate and caramel! It smells so good!!
Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a towel. Apply your favorite body lotion or use the vitamin E oil to make our homemade lotion bars and follow up with those.
This recipe makes 2 cups total of homemade sugar scrub. Put in to jars as gifts and make sure to attach one of our “Made with Love” gift tags for homemade gifts!
