It’s officially summer at our house. School is over this week and the temperatures are slowly climbing to over 100 degrees – a sure sign that the hazy lazy days of summer have arrived. Summer in Vegas is a lot like winter everywhere else. Our extreme weather means we tend to hide out and stay out of the sun. Of course, that doesn’t go over well with the kids who get B-O-R-E-D! So every summer I keep list of things to do when we get bored.
Camping is at the top of that list for me. We are a family divided when it comes to the great outdoors – half of us love and half of us tolerate it. We generally head up to higher elevations to camp during the summer and it’s a great way to cool off. (That’s not her underwear! She has on shorts under her skirt – promise!)
Last summer we spent six weeks in Michigan visiting family. This summer we have too much going on to leave town for that long but hopefully we’ll find time to make a trip to the Pacific ocean in California.
There will be plenty of grilling, too! When our temps climb over 100, I avoid cooking inside at all costs so our grill gets plenty of use during the summer.
Of course summer means hot dogs and our favorite brand is Hebrew National 100% all beef hot dogs. I love that they are not only all beef but don’t contain any preservatives or artificial colors. I got the idea for Hot Dog Foil Packets when the kids wanted hot dogs for lunch but I wanted grilled veggies.
My husband put his entire packet on a bun and ate it that way. I ate mine right out of the foil packet. The kids had plain hot dogs. These would be great for a camping trip and could be prepped before departing for camp. Just put your favorite veggies with a few hot dogs on a square of foil.
Fold up and grill! I had my doubts that it would work, but my husband and I agreed that this is our new favorite way to eat a Hebrew National hot dog. What about you? What’s on your docket for the summer?
