Homemade Ranch Dressing

I don’t particularly love ranch salad dressing, but there are certain times when a salad demands it.  For instance, I really like a tossed salad with ranch dressing when I eat pizza.  So I definitely wanted to have a homemade version ready to go when I wanted it.  I tried several different recipes and none of them fit the bill.

I finally put together all the good parts of several different recipes and got a ranch dressing I really like! This ranch is definitely runnier than the bottled version. I added a few spoons full of mayonnaise to thicken it up, but it was still runny.  If you want a thick dressing, cut back on the buttermilk and add in more mayo (or sour cream or yogurt to your preference).

Homemade Ranch Dressing

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried chives
  • 1/4 teaspoon dill weed

Whisk all ingredients together. Serve or refrigerate.
