Ready to lose weight in 2016? Check out these 5 tips for starting off the year in healthier direction!
Two years ago, in January 2014, I decided I needed to make some major changes in my lifestyle. I've always been overweight, but at that point in my life, I really felt awful. I'm happy to report that by May 2014, I lost 30 pounds and I've kept the weight off since. But I also lost motivation and have lapsed back in to some old bad habits. I'm trying to start of 2016 the same way I did 2014 and lose some more weight, eat better and be more active!
Plan Ahead: The saying goes that a failure to plan is a plan to fail and I find that to be so true. I use a food and fitness planner to help me stay on track and motivated. I keep track of my water intake, how much I move, and, most importantly, I plan what I eat. This helps me to not lose focus and eat something I shouldn't.
Take Supplements: I actually went to my doctor and had some blood work run to see what exactly I needed to help me feel better. After the tests results came in my doctor recommended fish oil, a probiotic, Vitamin D, niacin and turmeric. I've been taking these for 2 years and have noticed a huge difference. It's worth a check in with your doctor to see if any natural supplements would help you feel better, too.
Get A Dog: I personally believe you can get healthier just by changing your diet, but getting more active is just a good idea. This doesn't have to be an hour of cardio and weights every day. We adopted a dog in 2014 and she helps me get up and get moving because she loves to go for walks. It's a real pain sometimes because she needs to get out, but it also force me out the door when I don't want to go.
Make Smoothies: There is a lot of debate about what is and isn't “healthy.” But I think one thing everyone agrees on is that eating more fruits and vegetables is good for you. My favorite way to get in more fruits and veggies is to make smoothies. It took me a month to figure out what I like, but once I got the hang of it, I fell in love with smoothies and now they are my mid-morning snack.
