One thing you may not know about me is that I’m kind of a country music fan. I have friends in low places and can boot, scoot, and boogy with the best of them! This past weekend Las Vegas was host to the Academy of Country Music Awards and for the first time ever the weekend included a free to the public ACM Expo. There was so much to do including monster trucks, shopping, and of course, country music star sightings.
As part of the ACM Expo, Kraft sponsored the Kraft Country Kitchen where folks could sit and listen to music while enjoying refreshments and learn about the Kraft Fights Hunger campaign. As a blogger who spends a lot of time cooking, creating and photographing food, the idea that people in our country go hungry is mind boggling. I get annoyed when I have to clean out my fridge because there’s too much stuff in it and other families don’t have enough to eat. So I was interested to learn more about what Kraft is doing to help fight hunger.
Kraft Foods has teamed up with the country duo Joey+Rory to raise awareness for the Fighting Hunger Together Campaign with Walmart. Joey+Rory were at the Kraft Country Kitchen on Saturday helping to raise awareness about the Fighting Hunger campaign, signing autographs, and of course, singing a few tunes!
I had the pleasure of being able to meet and hang out with Joey+Rory. I had honestly never heard of this amazing duo until about a week ago. Joey+Rory hail from a small town in Tennessee where they live and work on a small farm. On the farm, they grow a large vegetable garden and raise chickens. They seem to really enjoy farm life and raising their own food. Joey also owns a restaurant, Marcy Jo’s, with her sister-in-law (Rory’s sister) where they cook from scratch using family recipes. Food is a very important part of Joey+Rory’s life so teaming up with Kraft to fight hunger was a very natural extension for them. It was fun to chat about their farm, restaurant, and their work with Kraft and the Fighting Hunger Together campaign.
I was very impressed by the commitment that Kraft, Walmart, and Joey+Rory have made to fight hunger together. In fact, Joey+Rory wrote a song, called “Enough”, for Kraft’s Fighting Hunger Together campaign. I love the lyrics of the song about wanting to just have enough to feed your family.
In 2010, Walmart made a commitment to donate $2 billion in cash and in kind donations to help fight hunger. Kraft has joined Walmart in the fight to end hunger. Kraft has already donated nearly $1 million in food and cash to help fight hunger. Visit Kraft’s Fighting Hunger Together website for information about Kraft’s commitment to fight hunger. PLUS you can enter your email address to get the free download to the Joey + Rory song “Enough!”
