One of my favorite family activities as a little girl was family movie night. Only we didn’t have Blu-rays or even a VCR. Instead family movie night consisted of watching family movies of OUR family that my dad had taken on a borrowed video camera. I’m not exactly sure what kind of camera or movies we had, but I know they were rolls of film similar to the blue ones above.
About 5 years ago my mother gave us the best Christmas gift I’ve ever received – our old family videos on a DVD. Now I watch the movies with my kids, remembering when Mommy and her sisters were little girls. There is only 3 years between my 3 siblings and I from oldest to youngest, so needless to say the movies are pretty funny! My middle sister did everything she could, at the age of 2, to ensure that the baby of the family would never learn to walk. Every time the baby got up to walk, the middle sis would walk by and push her down. My kids get a kick out of watching their aunts as kids.
Now it’s my turn to transfer our old VHS tapes of our kids. I know they’ll appreciate having their memories safe and secure for years to come.
