While I may live in the desert now, I spent the first 30 years of my life surrounded by water.  I grew up in a small town right on the shores of Lake Michigan.  We also had several smaller inland lakes in our area as well.  Most weekends in in the summer were spent on or near some body of water.  Living near the water is definitely one of the things I miss most about my home state.

When I was in elementary school my dad learned how to sail and bought a small 10 foot sail boat for our family.  We docked the boat in a private slip on a small inland lake.  We spent every Sunday in the summer at “the boat” swimming and sailing.  I learned how to sail and loved it. Those memories are some of the happiest I have of my childhood.

Now that we live in the desert you’d think boating would be out of the picture, but we actually live less than an hour from Lake Mead. Several of our friends own boats and spend weekends out on the lake.  I’d love to share boating with my family some day but figuring out where to start can be overwhelming.  That’s where Discover Boating comes in.

Discover Boating is a great resource for families who want to get out on the water and start boating.  I’ve been on speed boats, sail boats, pontoon boats, and even catamarans.  But there are so many other options, too.  I’ve always wanted to try jet skis, for instance.  Discover Boating has a great Boat Selector tool that can help you discover which boat would be best for your family.  Check it out and Get on the Water and create memories with your family this summer!
