Tired of wondering what's for dinner? Keep reading for the truth about a dinner subscription box that delivers dinner ready to cook to your door!
I am a big fan of menu planning. Not knowing what's for dinner stresses me out. I also hate planning to make a dish, like spinach salad, only to realize we are out of spinach. We end up eating out way too often and my health takes a toll.
I keep seeing ads for dinner box subscriptions on Facebook and they definitely grabbed my attention. Someone would plan our meal and send all the ingredients, plus the recipe right to my doorstep? No planning and no grocery shopping? I had to try it to get the truth – would they really work?
I did a little research and decided to try HelloFresh and the sent me a complimentary box to try out their service. HelloFresh offers weekly delivery of delicious, nutritious recipes and high quality ingredients to prepare them. The flexible subscription service is easy to use and can be cancelled at any time. My box arrived on my doorstep on a Wednesday afternoon.
I was eager to dig in and find out what was in store. I ordered the Family Box and received 3 meals for 4 people. You can also order 2 meals for people. There were three boxes of ingredients, one for each meal, and the meat was below. The meals we received were Dukkah-Roasted Chicken, Mushroom and Spinach Flatbread, and Pork Teriyaki. I stashed everything in the fridge for later in the week.
The next day I decided to make the Dukkah-Roasted Chicken. I grabbed the box of ingredients out of the fridge. I loved being able to grab a box and was ready to make dinner. There was no stress about what was for dinner or ending up eating out because I didn't have an ingredient.
Inside the box was everything I needed to make the chicken dish including sweet potatoes, snap peas, fresh limes, sour cream, and spices. Looking at the ingredients, I didn't think there was anyway this was enough food for 2 adults and 2 kids. But we had leftovers at every meal!
The recipe told me that dukkah is an Egyptian spice blend. I'd never had it before but we are pretty adventurous so I was willing to try it. The recipes are easy to substitute, though. If I didn't think we'd like dukkah, I'd have used just salt and pepper. One of the things I loved about the recipe cards was the timing. The recipe told me to start by roasting the sweet potatoes for 25 minutes. I'm not kidding when I say that the potatoes were done the minute everything else was ready. It was perfectly timed.
I'm completely hooked. I didn't have to think or plan at all. I just had to cook, which is the best part of making dinner! The recipes were delicious and flexible enough that I was able to adjust each one for our picky eater. The ingredients were so fresh!
