Is your house feeling a little cluttered? It’s time to say good-bye to a few items to make room for new memories and add a little bit of extra cash to your wallet with our sponsor eBay Valet.

I have a confession to make. I’m messy and slightly disorganized. I did a pretty decent job of keeping myself organized when I was single, but with addition of a husband and 2 kids in to my life I often feel like keeping my house tidy is a hopeless cause.  With the holidays quickly approaching, I am feeling the need to say good-bye to some items we no longer use or need.  And then, thanks to eBay Valet, I can easily make a few extra bucks for the holidays.

This summer I ran across the saying, “If it doesn’t nourish your soul, get rid of it.” That really hit a nerve as I looked around our cluttered home. I was feeling swallowed up by all of our “stuff.”  Imagine my surprise when reading up about a system of tidying up from Marie Kondo, author of The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.  In her system of decluttering called KonMariMarie recommends only keeping items in your home that spark joy in you. Well, that sounded familiar.

Marie recommends ditching the room by room method of tidying up. So no more sending your kids off to clean their room.  Instead, you sort items by categories: clothes, books, documents, miscellaneous and finally sentimental items.  In addition, Marie emphasizes the idea that you are deciding what to keep, not what to get rid of. You only keep things that spark  joy in you. If an item doesn’t spark joy, then it’s time to say good-bye.

After following Marie’s system, you’re sure to have a pile of items that are not bringing you joy.  In fact, the average household has 52 extra or unused items worth over $4,000. But finding a way to sell your used items can be overwhelming.  Now, thanks to eBay Valet, turning your used items in to cash for the holidays is even easier than ever.
