I work really hard to keep my family healthy mostly through the food we eat. I focus on organic products, limit the processed foods we eat, don't buy soda regularly and I really push vegetables. In fact, one of the reasons I started blogging was to keep a diary of the recipes I was finding and creating that helped us eat better. I had no idea how well it would work! My family is rarely sick.
And then came the winter of 2013. This winter been particularly brutal to our immune systems. It seems like my family has had some kind of illness since the year started. We've run the gamut from colds to the full blown flu this winter. We haven't been this sick in years. In fact, when I called our pediatrician she was surprised to hear from us because it wasn't time for our annual check-ups yet.
The worst part about my family being sick is feeling helpless. I wish I could take away their ailments, but all I can do is help relieve their symptoms. I don't generally keep a fully stocked medicine cabinet, mostly because medicines have expiration dates and I hate to throw things away. I just go get medicine if we need it. Except for one thing that my husband absolutely insists we keep in the medicine cabinet at all times – Vicks DayQuil and NyQuil.
My husband swears by Vicks DayQuil and NyQuil. As a high school teacher, my husband hates taking a day off when he's sick and he relies on Vicks DayQuil to help him get through the school day when he has a cold. Vicks DayQuil helps suppress his coughing, relieve nasal congestion and ease any aches or pains without making him drowsy. At night, he switches to NyQuil to make sure he gets enough rest to be alert the next day. I know, I know I sound like a commercial! But I'm not kidding – when I married my husband he came with his own supply of Vicks medicine!
We still try to very hard to stay as healthy as we can by eating a healthy and clean diet, but when a cold strikes and we need some relief, we definitely go to Vicks DayQuil and NyQuil to help relieve our symptoms.
Note: We don't give NyQuil or DayQuil to our children because it is not recommended for anyone under 12 years old. I'm not sure my husband would share anyway!
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Vicks DayQuil & NyQuil. I received product samples and a promotional item as a thank you for participation. All opinions are 100% my own – we really are a Vicks DayQuil & NyQuil family!
