Make this pretty craft for a Silhouette machine that is perfect for beginners. All you need is vinyl and a simple plate to make this pretty winter decoration.
Last Christmas my husband surprised me with a Silhouette Portrait machine. I had been entering giveaways for both a Silhouette Cameo and Portrait for years! I really wanted one so I could make fun vinyl crafts. Well, I finally got one…. and had no idea how to use it. Almost a year later and I’m still trying to find the time really learn how to use it. So I’ve recruited Bethany from Addicted 2 Savings 4 U to help me learn how to use the machine with easy tutorials for beginners.
Supplies Needed:
- Light Blue Vinyl
- Dark Blue Vinyl
- Silver Vinyl
- Contact Transfer Paper
- Plain White Plate
- Let it Snow file
- Snowflakes file
Directions:
Head over to the Silhouette Online studio and purchase the Let it snow file as well as the Snowflake Set file.
Go to your Silhouette Design Studio and go to file->library->and select your new files and upload them on a new screen.
Once you open the images right click on them separately and select release compound path and then right click again and click ungroup. Ungrouping allows us to take apart the image and choose what colors and sizes for each image for our final project.
Starting with the Let It Snow I cut in two different colors of vinyl to give the project a little bit of contrast. To make it fit perfectly in the center of my plate I resized it to 3.043” x 4.524”. (Your image and text can be resized using the scale feature in the toolbar).
Load the light blue vinyl onto the Silhouette mat in the left hand corner and feed it into the machine. I went over to the cut settings and only selected “Let It” to cut in light blue. Set your cut settings to vinyl and set the blade to a 2. Click “Send to silhouette” and let the cut begin. Once the cut is completed remove it from your Silhouette machine and weed out the excess vinyl and set aside.
Next, select “Snow” and 1 snowflake to cut in a dark blue. Use the same directions as above to cut and then weed.
Finally, cut out 2 silver snowflakes of different styles and sizes and weed.
Once all the text and images are weeded apply contact transfer paper and press firmly to allow the vinyl to stick.
Grab your plate. Start with the “Let It” and place on to the plate.
Next put down “Snow” underneath “Let It”.
Strategically place the 3 snowflakes wherever you think they look best. Just eye ball where you want the vinyl to go or use a ruler to lay it out how you want. Be creative!
This whole project took about 20 minutes from start to finish and I love the way it turned out. This would be great as a winter decoration for a Disney Frozen party.
I love the plate!! So cute and love the colors!!
Thanks, Crystal! And easy enough for beginners like me! LOL
