Are you a Nevada mom thinking about going to college? Check out 4 reasons you SHOULD go to college! Find out more about college scholarships for moms going back to college from our sponsor, WGU Nevada.
One of the best pieces of advice my mom ever gave me was to finish college and grad school before I got married or had kids. So I finished two degrees and got married a few months before graduating from law school. But my mom never finished college. This was in the late 60’s and early 70’s when you had to physically go to the campus to finish. It was hard at that time to be a mom and go to college.
Technology has changed all of that. Today you can be a mom go to class in your living room, a coffee shop or the library while the kids nap. If you’re sitting on the fence think you can’t possibly go back to college, then check out these reasons why you absolutely should!
4 Reasons for Nevada Moms to Enroll in College
Be an example for your kids: My kids are constantly asking me questions about college. Once my son found out he could live on his own and play video games whenever he wanted, he decided college was definitely for him! My brother-in-law is currently finishing his college degree and my kids have seen the hard work he’s putting in. Letting your kids see that college is important will help them set similar goals for the future.
For the Empty Nest Years: My mom was a stay at home for around 24 years. Once my sisters and I were out of the house, she wasn’t quite sure what to do. Even if you plan to stay home with your kids until they leave the house, now is a great time to think about what happens after. I will be 51 when my youngest kid graduates from high school – and I had my kids later in life! There will be plenty of time for a career once you have an empty nest.
Make A Difference in Your Community: Our Nevada community is in need of teachers. My husband and my sister are both teachers. While teaching is one of the toughest jobs out there, it’s also the most rewarding. In many communities, including Southern Nevada, teachers are desperately needed. Become a teacher or a nurse or one of many other career fields that are in high demand and make a difference.
Become a Better YOU: Getting an education is hands down one of the best decisions you’ll ever make for yourself. Not only will you learn a new career, but you’ll learn a lot about yourself. You’ll learn that you can be a great time manager. You’ll learn that you can learn new information even when it’s hard. You’ll learn how to thing differently and communicate with other people in your peers and professors. If nothing else, do it for YOU!
