Black and white chocolate spritz cookies are an easy to make treat. Inspired by the release of Disney’s MALEFICENT on Blu-ray™ and Digital HD on November 4th these chocolate and butter spritz cookies are a fun reminder that there are always two sides to a story.
The older I get the more I realize that life isn’t quite as black and white as I think it should be and things are not necessarily as they may first appear to be.
Disney’s Maleficent explores the “other” side of the story of the classic Sleeping Beauty as we see the story from the perspective of the iconic villain, Maleficent. In an unforgiving mood after a neighboring kingdom threatens her forest, Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) places an irrevocable curse on the king’s newborn daughter, the Princess Aurora. But as the child grows, Maleficent finds herself becoming fond of the girl. And as the conflict between the two realms intensifies, Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land.
In honor of the idea that every story has two sides, and because of my current obsession with my cookie press, I made two sided chocolate spritz cookies. I had this idea to use to different butter cookie doughs at the same time, side by side, in the cookie press.
I formed two logs – one of the butter spritz cookie dough and one of the chocolate spritz cookie dough – and put them side by side right in the cookie press.
I decided to use the heart shape disc on the cookie press. I tried to line up the dough so that one half of the cookies would be “white” and the other half would be “black.” I got it right most of the time. I found that the cookies released easier on metal cookie sheets rather than my favorite stoneware cookie sheets.
Maleficent will be available on Blu-ray™ & Digital HD on November 4, 2014 and also on Disney Movies Anywhere!
