Today is the first day of National Dog Week! A few weeks ago I noticed that it was supposedly National Dog Day on Instagram, but now our four legged fur babies get an entire week in the spotlight. Of course, we couldn’t let this week go by without celebrating our family dog, Ginger.
Ginger is an almost 3 year old labradoodle and like most doodles she is a mix of craziness and cuteness. She reminds me of a giant teddy bear! Ginger is also part kangaroo. That girl loves to leap and jump and run as fast as she can. One of her favorite things to do is go to the dog park and pretend to play fetch.
I say pretend to play fetch because while Ginger fetches, she really doesn’t bring the ball back. Instead, she prefers to play keep away. Once she grabs the ball, she places it between her front paws and sits and waits for someone to try and steal it from her at which point she grabs the ball and runs. She prefers to play keep away from another dog, but if none of them seems interested then she’s happy to play keep away from us. Needless to say we lose.
Of course, it’s not a real celebration without a few special treats! A new leash, a flying disc, and of course, some special treats. On special occasions, Ginger gets treats or even sometimes wet food. National Dog Week seems like the perfect opportunity to give Ginger a little something special at meal time to show her how special is to us because meal time is dog’s favorite time.
