Take an afternoon break this summer with a homemade turtle chocolate, pecans and caramel frappe made with International Delight® Caramel Macchiato creamer and topped with Reddi-wip® whipped topping.
We are currently in the dog days of summer. It’s hot. The days are long and lazy and just fun! In our family summer itself is a huge deal and we take advantage of every moment we can. We like how you party! Special days call for a special sweet creamy treat. When the temperatures heat up, I love to take a minute to slow down and enjoy a homemade frappe.
A quick way to make a frappe at home is to keep a supply of International Delight gourmet creamers and a couple of cans of Reddi-wip in your fridge. International Delight has a great variety of rich and creamy flavors to choose from. I picked up Caramel Macchiato and French Vanilla. Because seriously, what’s coffee if there’s no creamer?
And did you know that Reddi-wip is made from cows not treated with artificial growth hormone and contains no artificial flavors or sweeteners?! Real dairy cream has always been the #1 ingredient. And it’s great on fruit, ice cream and other summer treats.
International Delight and Reddi-wip are easy to find at Walmart. My Walmart store had them right in an end cap in the refrigerator section. Be adventurous and pick up a variety flavors and have making frappes all summer long.
Turtle Chocolate, Pecans and Caramel Frappe Recipe
“Turtle” inspired desserts seem to have gone out of fashion lately and I’m on a mission to bring back this fun combination of caramel, chocolate and pecans. This turtle frappe is creamy and delicious and a great way to add a little fun to a summer afternoon.
Caramel Frappe Ingredients
To make a turtle frappe, you’ll need International Delight Caramel Macchiato, Extra Creamy Reddi-wip, chocolate sauce, chopped pecans and instant espresso powder along with whole milk and ice.
You will also need a blender. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy. I just used a regular blender.
And you’ll need a cup of some sort, too. I used a mason jar cup but it’s just so cute.
Prepare Your Glass with Chocolate
First, prepare your serving glass by drizzling chocolate syrup around the inside of the glass. Just squeeze the bottle or use a spoon to drizzle the chocolate down the sides. Don’t be afraid to try making your own homemade chocolate sauce! Let it puddle on the bottom of the glass. You want about a tablespoon of sauce total. Set the cup aside for now.
Blend Up A Caramel Frappe
Now it’s time to blend the frappe! First, add 1 1/2 cups of ice to your blender. If you can get chopped ice from your refrigerator door, that will help to get a frappe without any big ice chunks in it. I used regular ice cubes and only had to dig 1 cube out that refused to blend.
Next add 1/2 a cup of International Delight creamer and 1/2 cup of whole milk. You can use any milk, but whole milk will make the frappe creamier.
Finally, add in a single serve packet of instant espresso powder. For a stronger coffee flavor, use two packets of the powder. Espresso powder also comes in a jar and you can use about 1/2 tablespoon of that.
Put the top on the blender and puree until smooth. It will be thick, but all the ice should be blended in. If any of the cubes refuse to blend, just dig them out and toss.
Carefully pour the frappe into your prepared chocolate lined glass. You may want to use a spoon to help it along or else it may all glob into the glass and make a huge mess (not that I did that!).
Garnish the Frappe
But we aren’t done yet! This is a turtle frappe after all and so far you only have caramel and chocolate. You need pecans!
Add a dollop of Reddi-wip to the top of the frappe. Sprinkle the chopped pecans on the Reddi-wip and top of the frappe.
And that’s it! You now have a turtle chocolate, pecans and caramel frappe. Sit back and enjoy a lazy summer afternoon sipping away.
- 1 Tablespoon chocolate sauce
- 1 1/2 cups ice
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup International Delight Caramel Macchiato
- 1 single serve packet instant espresso powder
- Extra Creamy Reddi-Wip Whipped Topping
- 1/2 Tablespoon chopped pecans
Prepare serving glass by carefully drizzling chocolate sauce down the the inside sides of a glass. Set aside.
Add ice, milk, International Delight Caramel Macchiato, and espresso powder to a blender. Blend until smooth.
Pour the frappe contents from the blender into the prepared glass.
Add a dollop of Reddi-Wip to the top of the glass. Sprinkle with chopped pecans.
