Black cherry cobbler made with frozen dark cherries and honey is topped with an oatmeal pecan crumble.
Black cherry cobbler is a delicious dessert that is super quick and easy to make thanks to frozen cherries. Once the cherries are thawed, you simply mix the filling and topping and then bake.
You can make the cobbler as one large dessert in a square baking pan. Make individual cobblers by baking them in individual dishes. The cast-iron pans we used are adorable and perfect for this cobbler.
Make this dessert gluten-free by using equal amounts of almond flour for the all-purpose flour in the crisp. As written, the recipe is free of refined sugars.

How to Make Black Cherry Cobbler
Frozen cherries are much easier to use than fresh ones for this recipe. Place frozen cherries in a small strainer set over a large bowl to collect the liquid while thawing. Reserve the liquid to use in smoothies, cocktails, or non-alcoholic beverages. For example, you can combine some of the cherry juice with club soda and some crushed mint for a refreshing spritzer.
Place the top oven rack in the center position and pre-heat the oven to 350°F.
Combine thawed chopped cherries, honey, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and thyme leaves in a bowl. Toss to combine and set aside.
Combine the rolled oats, flour, honey, chopped pecans, and salt in a separate bowl.
Stir until oats are thoroughly coated and all ingredients are well combined. Set aside.
Lightly grease your baking dishes. You can bake this in four 9-oz. oval cast iron baking dishes, a 10″ cast iron skillet, or a 9″ square baking pan.
Add the cherry mixture to your baking dishes. If making individual cobblers, divide the cherry mixture equally among the cast iron mini-servers.
Spread the topping on top of the black cherry mixture. Divide the topping between the 4 mini-servers, as well, and spread into a thin layer on top.
Remove from oven and set aside to cool for at least 5-10 minutes before serving or let it cool completely.
Serve plain or topped with some Greek yogurt, whipped cream, or ice cream. Garnish with a couple of sprigs of fresh thyme, if desired.
