I am lucky to be a morning person so getting up and out of bed really isn’t a problem. But once I had kids, and the nights got longer, getting my day started right became a bit of a struggle. Even now, I find that some days are easier to get going than others. I have found a few things that help me get up and get ready for the day.
#1: Drink Water: The first thing I do when I wake up is drink water. I leave a water bottle right on my bed side table so it’s there when I wake up. I am usually parched when I wake up and I’ve found that getting a head start on hydration helps.
#2: Get showered and dressed: Don’t laugh! Up until this past August, I usually wasn’t showered or dressed before 2:00 PM. But this year I get up right after my husband and take a shower. I have found this to really help me start my day right. And yes, yoga pants and a tee shirt totally count as dressed. Hair and make up are optional.
#3: Eat breakfast: This is one of my eating goals for the year to eat breakfast every day. Not just coffee – actually eating something. I’ve started keeping my favorite Kellogg’s cereals in the house so I can enjoy a cereal freestyle mix and match and get a good start to my day. I’ve also been making smoothies to eat with my cereal to sneak in a few extra fruits and vegetables.
#4: Quiet Time: While Im eating breakfast, I take some time to read and reflect and journal. If the kids are up, park them in front of the TV for a few minutes. This lets me have time to gather my thoughts and come up with a plan of action for the day.
#5: Know Yourself: I prefer to hit the ground running and get all the hard tasks out of the way first thing in the morning. My husband is not a morning person so he waits until the afternoon.
