Frozen Pretzel & Strawberry Dessert

Frozen Pretzel and Strawberry Dessert #FreshNFruti

Strawberry desserts are perfect for summer barbecues and potlucks.  Strawberry Fruti Bars are blended with cream cheese and whipped cream and then layered over a pretzel crust.  After few hours in the freezer,  you have a refreshing pretzel and strawberry dessert. One of my favorite potluck desserts of all time is strawberry gelatin layered on top of a whipped cream mixture on top of a pretzel crust. I love the mix of salty and sweet.  So when Fruti Bars asked me to create a summertime cookout dessert with their Chunks O' Fruti  Bars, I decided to use their Strawberry and Strawberry Cream bars to make a frozen version of the pretzel and strawberry dessert. I purchased the Fruti Chunks O' Fruit bars at Sam's Club. Check out more about my shopping trip in my Google+ album!  It's always a chore to find freezer space for those large boxes from Sam's, but Fruti Bars helped me out - the 4 individual boxes fit perfectly in my freezer. Fruti Bars are all natural - no ... [read more]

Pastel Pizzelles #SundaySupper

Pastel Pizzelles

Pizzelles are one of my favorite cookies.  Light and delicate, pizelles are the perfect shower food for a baby shower or bridal shower.  The simple addition of color personalizes the pizzelles to match the baby's gender or the bride's colors. I have been debating the purchase of a pizelle maker for years. The problem is that I tend to be a kitchen gadget junkie. I try to only buy a kitchen gadget that can be used for at least two different purposes.  My friend offered to let me borrow hers so I could play around with it.  I ordered my own pizelle maker about an hour after making my first batch! I didn't want to just make plain, boring pizelles so I decided to add some color.  After making the batter, I divided it up and added food dye.  I ended up with pink, purple, and yellow for some fun spring colors.  I never quite got the amount of batter exactly right in the pizzelle maker.  I always just a little too much or a tad too little, but with more practice, I know ... Homemade caramel sauce has been on my to make list for a long time, but recipes that include melting sugar often scare me.  I finally got around to making homemade caramel sauce with an easy recipe that uses only five ingredients. I also found some tips and tricks to make sure that your homemade caramel sauce is a success!   This week's Secret Ingredient for Iron Chef Mom is caramel!  Yum, right?  Well, as it turns out, I have absolutely NO recipes that include caramel! It's a travesty, really.   I'm not sure how that happened considering caramel is a favorite of my husband.  I have, however, had homemade caramel sauce on my list of recipes to make for ages.  The problem is that melt sugar scares me.  It's just so fussy!  I've ruined my fair share of homemade toffee recipes. Honestly, instead of making homemade caramel sauce, I've just bought it.  Shame! But no more store bought caramel sauce for us! I can't believe how easy it is to make homemade caramel ... My family loves pineapple so a pineapple whip has quickly become a favorite summer treat.  we love our summer drinks around here!  Strawberry shakes are often requested by the kids as is making ice cream in a bag.  I personally prefer iced coffee, but these pineapple whips are definitely a treat when I want something sweet.  I love that these are  easy to make right in your ice cream maker with a few simple ingredients. This past May at a Six Flags amusement park, I finally had my very first Dole Pineapple Whip.  I had seen the recipe floating around the blogosphere and read about the whips being a fun treat at Disney World so when I spied them at Six Flags, I made a bee line to get one.  And oh my, they did not disappoint.
