Slow Cooker Pot Roast Recipe with Biscuit Topping

Slow Cooker Pot Roast Recipe with Biscuit topping from http://growingupgabel.com @thegabels #recipe

In my experience a good pot roast recipe is hard to find.  Look no more! Cook your roast all day in the slow cooker then make a tasty gravy on the stove top for the perfect pot roast recipe! Pot roast is one of those dishes that has eluded me.  I have spent years searching for the perfect pot roast recipe to no avail. Pot roast was apparently just not my thing.  Then I ran across this Yankee pot roast recipe and it caught my attention because it was so different from any of the other recipes I'd tried. For me, pot roast needs a hearty delicious gravy and this recipe has just that.   You can put the biscuit layer on top or just skip it. My biscuits didn't cook well so I think next time I'll just bake them separately because I wanted something to mop up that yummy gravy!  I think you could even skip the gravy, if you wanted, but I wouldn't!  Watch the salt because the bouillon is usually pretty salty on it's own. Hawaiian Slow Cooker Chicken Recipe

Slow Cooker Hawiian Chicken from Growing Up Gabel @thegabels #recipes

This easy slow cooker chicken recipe gives you a taste of a tropical luau.  This recipe is traditionally called shoyu chicken.  Serve this meal with steamed rice and macaroni salad for a Hawaiian lunch plate.  The chicken would also be great on a Chinese chicken salad. I first had Hawaiian slow cooker chicken at a friend's party.  Her son was turning 1 and they had a luau for him.  I couldn't get enough of this chicken!  When I found out that this was a slow cooker chicken recipe, I was sure to ask for it.  I'd say next to Amish Baked Chicken, this is my family's favorite chicken dish.  The chicken is just as moist as a beer can chicken without all the fuss. When I cook chicken in the slow cooker, I prefer to use dark meat on the bone. I like thighs because there is just one bone and it's really easy to remove after the chicken is done cooking.  You can make this with boneless chicken, but I'd cut down the cooking time by about an hour and watch it to make sure it ... Slow Cooker Ribs #ChooseSmart

Slow Cooker Ribs from Growing Up Gabel @thegabels #recipe

Slow cooker ribs are the perfect main dish for a Super Bowl party.  Cook the ribs in the slow cooker, while you do other things, then simply grill or broil with barbecue sauce for 15 minutes and the ribs are ready to serve! You will need: 3 1/2 pounds pork spare ribs 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1 teaspoon salt 3 Tablespoons liquid smoke 2 cloves garlic, finely diced 1 medium onion, sliced 1/2 cup cola Barbecue sauce In a small bowl prepare a rub by mixing together the brown sugar, pepper, salt, liquid smoke and garlic. Remove ribs from package or wrapping  I bought a package of Farmer John's Spareribs at Smart & Final that was over 8 pounds and contained 2 racks of ribs. I cooked up one rack, as seen above, which was right around 4 pounds, and froze the other rack for later. For a party, I'd use 2 slow cookers and cook them all. Cut racks of ribs in to 4 equal parts - or however many pieces you need to fit them ... [read more]

Slow Cooker Pineapple Meatballs

Slow Cooker Pineapple Meatballs - Growing Up Gabel @thegabels

I love meatballs and I love my slow cookers.  Combine the two for a fabulous slow cooker meatball dinner that comes together in a few minutes and then cooks while you do other important things.  Add rice and a vegetable for an easy and quick dinner. I am a big fan of keeping a bag of frozen meatballs in my freezer at all times because they are so versatile.  You can use them with pasta, of course, but you can also make things like slow cooker barbecue meatballs or in soup like Italian Wedding Soup or Meatball Minetsrone. These fabulous meatball sandwiches from Brandie at Homecooking Memories look amazing, too.  Most of the time I don't even need to defrost the meatballs so if I forget about dinner - we have meatballs! I will admit though that making meatballs is not exactly my favorite kitchen task and I can't wait until my kids are old enough so I can delegate meatball making to them.  So in order to avoid having to make meatballs a lot, I usually make up a huge batch - ... Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches - Growing Up Gabel @thegabels

I love buffalo chicken - anywhere and in any form! I also love slow cookers so put the two together and in my book, I have the perfect combination.  This is a super easy slow cooker meal that is also easy to freeze so you can make two dinners at once. Lately I've been all about using my slow cookers. Yes, plural - I have four and I use every single one. My favorite and most used slow cooker is a Hamilton Beach 6-quart programmable slow cooker. I love how big it is and that I can program it. The trick to cooking in a slow cooker, however, is to fill the slow cooker 2/3 full. So sometimes I need smaller options so I also own a red 4 quart oval Crock-Pot and an even smaller, and much older, 2-1/2-quart Crock Pot. Just for fun, I also have a Little Dipper. For this recipe I used the 2 1/2 quart slow cooker because I knew it would be the perfect fit for just meat and sauce. In addition to slow cookers, I also love buffalo sauce and putting the two together is just about the perfect ... [read more]
