Hey there, Growing Up Gabel readers!  I'm Jenn from A Jennuine Life.  Camille recently asked for volunteers to join her as a "crafty" contributor, and I jumped at the chance. That's me with my hubby Dave and my two adorable little girls Arden and Hadley.  I'm an accountant by day (part time) and a wannabe artisan - sew, knit, stitch, fabricate, paint - I try it all!  I do definitely lean towards sewing so that's likely where most of my projects will begin, but I promise to keep things interesting! Father's Day will be upon us in no time flat, so I'm going to share an easy sewing project to create a DIY beverage holster.  Perfect for your favorite father to keep his drink at the ready while tending a backyard barbecue or hanging out ... How To Make Placemats {Reversible}

How to make placemats

I have been wanting to figure out how to make placemats for a few years.  When my husband and I got married nearly a decade ago I registered for and received a set of eight black placemats.  I love them, but they aren't very colorful!  So when Jo-Anns sent me a few yards of their very colorful HGTV inspired fabrics, I knew it was time to figure out how to make placemats.  For even more fun and versatility, I decided to make the placemats reversible! I have a pattern for tableware that my mom gave me, but I decided to see if I could just wing it to make placemats.  Sometimes this works for me and sometimes, well, it doesn't.  This time around, though, was a great success! Jo-Ann's sent me a yard of HGTV Urban Blossom and Cherry and a yard of HGTV Checkered Past Berry. I love the colors and the patterns!  It is suggested to dry clean the fabric, but I'll just wash them in cold water on a gentle cycle and line dry. I had to have placemats made with these ... ModPodge Bookshelf Doll Bed

Wash Out Mod Podge for Kids Doll Bed

My 6 year old daughter received an American Girl doll for Christmas for her grandparents and our newest family needed a doll bed.  I found an inexpensive way to let my daughter make the doll bed herself. If your daughter has any kind of doll I'm sure you know that the doll also needs clothes...and accessories...and furniture. Not that I can blame my daughter.  My dolls had a bunk beds! She really wanted her doll to have her own bed, but floor space is precious in her room. So I had the idea to find a doll bed that we could put on the wall instead. I bought a wood bookshelf at the craft store using my 40% off coupon, of course, to make it really inexpensive.  I had intended to paint the bookshelf and give it to my daughter for Christmas, but my daughter saw the shelf and wanted to decorate it herself.  A few months later, we finally got around to it. I was recently sent Apple Barrel paint and Mod Podge Washout for Kids to try out on a kid craft.  Now, I didn't ... [read more]

No Sew Football Field Table Runner

No Sew Football Table Runner from Growing Up Gabel @thegabels #crafts #SuperBowl

This easy no sew table runner will be the center piece of your Super Bowl party.  Use simple felt, ribbon and glue to create a football themed decoration perfect for serving Mexican Corn Dip, Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches and a big pitcher full of Pineapple Sangria. This year we are hosting our very fist Super Bowl party.  My husband is so excited about it that he put it on our synced family calendar in October.  We're planning to keep our guest list small - mostly family and maybe a few close friends - but I still want to create a fun football themed atmosphere, preferably with little effort on my part! I saw this no sew table runner underneath a football themed food photo on Pinterest.  I dug around and found the original tutorial at  the Simmworks Family Blog. However, after I'd gotten my materials together I forgot to take a look and see how Danielle did it. Have I mentioned I don't follow directions well?  So mine looks entirely different. I bought ...
