I’ve been playing around with smoothies lately. They seem like they should be so easy to make, but I am super picky about how they turn out. I’m learning the ins and outs of getting the perfect texture and taste. In the summer I have a lot of over ripe bananas because they turn so quickly in the warm weather. I peel them first and then freeze them and use as needed for smoothies.
This one is a favorite of the kids. They think they’re chocolate shakes. Freeze any leftovers in a Popsicle tray and have homemade healthy frozen treats!
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 overly ripe banana
- 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
- ½-1 cup milk
- Put all ingredients in a blender and blend!
- Freeze leftovers for a tasty ice cream treat.

This is a great way of using up overripe bananas! Especially in the summertime. I always freeze our bananas that are getting overripe, but I usually use them in banana bread (which I don’t make in the summer very often).
