Slow Cooker Ribs from Growing Up Gabel @thegabels #recipe

Slow cooker ribs are the perfect main dish for a Super Bowl party.  Cook the ribs in the slow cooker, while you do other things, then simply grill or broil with barbecue sauce for 15 minutes and the ribs are ready to serve! You will need: 3 1/2 pounds pork spare ribs 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1 teaspoon salt 3 Tablespoons liquid smoke 2 cloves garlic, finely diced 1 medium onion, sliced 1/2 cup cola Barbecue sauce In a small bowl prepare a rub by mixing together the brown sugar, pepper, salt, liquid smoke and garlic. Remove ribs from package or wrapping  I bought a package of Farmer John's Spareribs at Smart & Final that was over 8 pounds and contained 2 racks of ribs. I cooked up one rack, as seen above, which was right around 4 pounds, and froze the other rack for later. For a party, I'd use 2 slow cookers and cook them all. Cut racks of ribs in to 4 equal parts - or however many pieces you need to fit them in ... [read more]

Slow cooker barbecue chicken reminds me of a lazy Sunday supper on a hot summer day.  Chicken pieces are browned and then cooked in the slow cooker.  Cover with a thick and rich homemade barbecue sauce to top it all off.  The best part is that slow cooker barbecue chicken all cooks in the slow cooker while you enjoy your day. The Sunday dinner yumminess in this post is sponsored by Foodie.com. There's nothing quite like Sunday dinner.  When my parents are in town during the winter, we always eat Sunday dinner at their house with my sister.  It's the one time each week we all stop to eat and spend time together.  I cherish that time each week I get to spend with my extended family. When my parents leave for the summer, it's my turn to plan our Sunday dinner and it's almost always chicken.  There's just something about Sunday dinner that just needs a delicious chicken meal.  I put together a fun collection of easy chicken dinners perfect for Sunday dinner on Foodie.com, ... Slow Cooker Pineapple Meatballs - Growing Up Gabel @thegabels

I love meatballs and I love my slow cookers.  Combine the two for a fabulous slow cooker meatball dinner that comes together in a few minutes and then cooks while you do other important things.  Add rice and a vegetable for an easy and quick dinner. I am a big fan of keeping a bag of frozen meatballs in my freezer at all times because they are so versatile.  You can use them with pasta, of course, but you can also make things like slow cooker barbecue meatballs or in soup like Italian Wedding Soup or Meatball Minetsrone. These fabulous meatball sandwiches from Brandie at Homecooking Memories look amazing, too.  Most of the time I don't even need to defrost the meatballs so if I forget about dinner - we have meatballs! I will admit though that making meatballs is not exactly my favorite kitchen task and I can't wait until my kids are old enough so I can delegate meatball making to them.  So in order to avoid having to make meatballs a lot, I usually make up a huge batch - like ... Wine Braised Beef Short Ribs

beef short ribs

Beef short ribs become an easy and elegant meal when cooked in a wine sauce in the slow cooker.  I used Hearty Burgundy wine provided by Gallo Family Vineyard, as part of Mom It Forward Blogger Network, to cook the ribs low and slow for a tender, delicious meal. I grew up eating my dad's world famous baby back ribs and never really gave much thought to what kind of ribs I was eating.  It wasn't until only about 10 years ago that I realized there are both beef and pork ribs.  Then we started buying our beef in bulk from a local rancher and  we almost always get a couple of pounds of beef short ribs. I'm always up for cooking and eating something new, but I had no idea how to cook beef short ribs.  After much research, I discovered that beef short ribs are pretty tough so the best way to them is slow and low.  I've tried several different recipes but the ribs always lacked flavor and were swimming in fat. Gallo Family Vineyard is celebrating 50 years of making red ... [read more]

Slow Cooker Pot Roast Recipe with Biscuit topping from http://growingupgabel.com @thegabels #recipe

In my experience a good pot roast recipe is hard to find.  Look no more! Cook your roast all day in the slow cooker then make a tasty gravy on the stove top for the perfect pot roast recipe! Pot roast is one of those dishes that has eluded me.  I have spent years searching for the perfect pot roast recipe to no avail. Pot roast was apparently just not my thing.  Then I ran across this Yankee pot roast recipe and it caught my attention because it was so different from any of the other recipes I'd tried. For me, pot roast needs a hearty delicious gravy and this recipe has just that.   You can put the biscuit layer on top or just skip it. My biscuits didn't cook well so I think next time I'll just bake them separately because I wanted something to mop up that yummy gravy!  I think you could even skip the gravy, if you wanted, but I wouldn't!  Watch the salt because the bouillon is usually pretty salty on it's own.
