Looking for a the perfect summer drink? How about beer cocktails! Peach beermosas are a refreshing, fun, and interesting summer drink. They’re bound to be a conversation starter at your next barbecue.
I’ve been doing a lot of peach lately, haven’t I? Clearly this is my fruit of choice this summer. 😛
I know what you’re thinking. Beermosas? A mimosa with beer? BEER COCKTAILS?
And the answer is yes. A mimosa with beer.
It sounds disgusting, but it’s actually really nice. I kept seeing them around and I was finally inspired to try them (starting with the strawberry beermosas I posted on Budget Girl) when a friend of mine said they’re a huge hit where she’s from.
I was really skeptical, and I had a bottle of wine on hand in case beer cocktails were as horrible as they sounded. But once I tried them, I fell in love.
My husband, Zach, took a bit more convincing. He wasn’t so sure about the idea of beer cocktails and was even less impressed with his first taste. He found they got better with the second. (Honestly, the first bit can be a little frothy, so I understood.)
If you like beer, you’ll love these beer cocktails. If you don’t like beer, you might still like these. The beer actually doesn’t add too much of a “beery” taste, as long as you get something that isn’t too hoppy.
Shock Top is a good example, since it can be found nearly everywhere. It’s got a very light flavor and it blends well with the fruit. Some people recommend IPAs, but I think they’re too bitter for beermosas. It depends on your taste in beer, though. (I’m not the biggest fan of IPAs in general.)
Bonus: it’s relatively cheap to make in large batches. One six-pack of beer will serve roughly 20 people. Assuming everyone sticks to the serving size (8 oz).
Now, onto the making of the peach beermosas.
I used five fresh, ripe, yellow peaches…and it was an enormous pain in the neck. I recommend using a bag of frozen peaches. They’re already peeled and cut (the skin from the peaches adds way too much grittiness). All you need to do is thaw them out and puree them.
Anyway, five peaches got me about 1 1/2 cups of peach puree. To get enough puree to use the entire pack of beer, you’ll need 3 cups of puree. Some people add water to their puree, which is fine. I think it dulls the flavor, though, so I just put my fruit in the food processor and puree it on its own.
As for the beer, I used RJ Rocker’s Son of a Peach wheat ale. This beer is fine, but I’d recommend just using whatever beer you prefer. I chose this because I thought the peach would add more flavor to the beermosas, but it really didn’t.
For the juice, you can go with orange or you can use a peach mango juice. There are some by Bolthouse Farms (I think), which you can find in the produce section.
There are also others in the regular orange juice section. The one I got also had carrots in it, which Zach really liked.
Still feeling a bit skeptical about trying these? Just jump in! Make a small batch (which you can find the recipe for below) and if you hate them, you never have to drink them again. (This is what I tell Zach when he’s not sure if he’ll like something I plan to make.) You may be pleasantly surprised, though. 😉
